By Guardian Reporter

The opposition party, Civic United Front (CUF), has said it will not recognise the new government to be formed by the newly re-elected President Amani Abeid Karume.

Zanzibar presidential election second run up, Seif Hamad, said his party Governing Council would meet on Saturday to discuss the election irregularities commited during the voting day.

’Then we shall instruct our supporters and members on what actions shall be taken,’ he said.

He refused to take part yesterday in the celebrations to officially install Karume as the Isles’ president.

Hamad and his Chairman, Prof Ibrahim Lipumba, made, their position at a news conference shortly after the ZEC Chairman, Masauni Yousuf Masauni, announced elections results.

’We do not recognise the new government. We will not cooperate with it in any aspect,’ he said.

CUF accused CCM leaders of colluding with ZEC to manipulate election results and the entire electoral process.

’We had informed top CCM leaders and ZEC about these anomalies, but no action was taken. Votes were rigged. Some people voted more than three times,’ Hamad said.

This was the third time for Hamad and his party to dispute election results.
