The new Attorney General, Johson Mwanyika, has promised Tanzanians a prudent and diligent service, in his new responsibility as top legal counsel to the government.
Mwanyika made the pledge in his first remarks to Parliament, which convened for its inaugural sessions in Dodoma.
Said he: I would like to assure honourable Members of Parliament that I would try to the best of my efforts to fulfill all responsibilities vested on this post.
He said the new job was a challenge to him, but assured that he would work hard to the best of his professional capacity to achieve the countrys expectations.
I will endeavour fulfillment of my responsibilities vigilantly and with the highest level of integrity, pledged the new AG, as he was proposing a motion to ask the House to endorse the Monduli legislator, Edward Lowassa, as the fourth-phase premier.
He prayed to the Almighty God to endow him courage and ability that would help him fulfill his new duties and responsibilities, as the countrys top legal counsel.
I appeal for co-operation from all honourable MPs and on my part I would like to assure you that I will give you the service that will help you serve the people well, said the AG.
President Jakaya Kikwete picked Johnson Mwanyika as new Attorney General to replace Andrew Chenge, currently the MP for Bariadi West.
AGs appointment was the first since he was elected President from the December 14 polls.
Other appointments after Mwanyikas, include that of the new premier, Edward Lowassa and six nominated MPs to the National Assembly.
The six included Zakia Meghji, Kingunge Ngombale-Mwiru, Thomas Mwangonda, Sofia Simba, Khadija Ngozi and Mohamed Aboud.
