An 84-year-old grandfather has been charged with bhang possession in Kibaha.
In the dock was Paulo Francis, who denied the charge before the Kibaha District magistrate on Wednesday.
Inspector Issa Lutavi earlier told the court that the accused was found in possession of two kilogrammes of bhang on October 17, last year, at Mbwewe Township in Bagamoyo District.
He said the bhang was seized during a search conducted in the old mans house.
Francis was released on bail and his next court appearance was scheduled for January 20.
Meanwhile, Malongo Robert, 21, appeared before the same court on a charge of stealing a mobile phone.
Malongo allegedly stole the phone, valued at 120,000/-, from Leonard Mhilu at Kibaha Maili Moja on the evening of October 26, last year.
The court heard that Mhilu was taking a call when Robert tiptoed from behind under the cover of darkness and snatched the phone before running off, leaving his victim stunned.
The accused denied the charge and was remanded after failing to meet bail conditions. The case will be heard on January 26.
