The Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT) is organising a special thanksgiving mass to commemorate peaceful December 14 general election.

Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT), Dodoma Diocese Bishop, Dr Peter Lukumbo Mwamasika, said on Friday, the mass would be held on 18th next month in Dodoma.

He said, in the mass, the church apart from giving thanks to the almighty God for peaceful general election, it would also pray for peace to be sustained among other current national affairs.

’We will also pray to God to give members of the new government wisdom,’ he said.

It was only with wisdom from God would the new government be able to fulfill the promise of sustainable development, he said.

Dr Mwamasika said the church was praying for rainfall, so as to avert drought and famine.

’We trust God, it will rain. He will save us from drought,’ he said.

He said the church had a role to play for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to be achieved.

’One of the roles is prayer. Another one is supporting development efforts in all realms of the economy,’ he said.
