The Minister for Energy and Minerals, Dr Ibrahim Msabaha, gave the assurance yesterday in Dar es Salaam when he took over the office from his predecessor, Daniel Yona.
The government is aware of the power problem the country is facing. This has been caused by the prolonged drought, which has resulted in lower water levels in the dams, said Dr Msabaha.
He said that Prime Minister Edward Lowassa would visit Mtera Dam tomorrow to assess the problem.
We shall wait for the outcome of the visit before deciding on the next course of action. However, we would like to assure the public that the government will take precautionary steps to forestall the looming power outages, he said.
Dr Msabaha thanked President Jakaya Kikwete for appointing him to the ministry and promised to work hard to contribute to the growth of the economy.
He also thanked his predecessor for being a team player during his tenure.
Yona said he was sure he had left the office in good hands.
I am happy that after working together for about four years, Im leaving this office to you. There are many problems that you will need to give priority to. I prepared these files for you to enable you get down to work as soon as possible, said Yona.
Dr Msabaha was Yonas deputy in retired president Benjamin Mkapas government.
Yona advised the new minister to co-operate with experts in the ministry to reduce complaints in the mining and energy sectors.
The handing over ceremony started at 10:20am and lasted for about 10 minutes.
It was also attended by the Deputy Minister, Dr Laurence Masha and heads of department in the ministry and commissioners.
