Kenya’s national soccer team striker Bernard Mwalala who joined Yanga last weekend, may not play for the Tanzanian club.

Mwalala, a top scorer at the 2005 Cecafa Kagame Club championship in Mwanza, is already registered with both Uganda’s Sports Club Villa and Rayon Sport of Rwanda.

Sources in Kigali that sought anonymity said Bernard Mwalala may not play for Yanga even after Villa had signed his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) because he had already signed for Rayon Sport.

The source added that Mwalala’s names were already dispatched to Cairo based football body, CAF as Rayon’s player in the 2006 Confederations Cup.

The Kenyan player, who joined Yanga along with compatriots John Baraza and Edwin Mukenya, could face a CAF suspension if it emerges that he is double registered.

The Kenyan striker is reported to have asked for ’’engagement fee’’ from the Rwandan side that had released undisclosed part payment for the deal. But for reasons unknown, the player never turned up even after Rayon Sport dispatched his names to CAF.

Mwalala was outstanding during the last Cecafa Clubs championship in Mwanza emerging top scorer after netting six goals for Villa.

His six – goal haul helped the Kampala soccer side to win the regional Kagame Cup and pocketed $30,000 (about 30m/-). Villa trounced Rwandan champions APR 3 – 0 in the final to clinch the title.

John Baraza last played for Chemelil Sugar in the Kenyan Premier League while Mukenya was with Tusker in the last season.

The Tanzanian side under Malawian tactician, Jack Chamangwana are building up ahead of this year’s African Champions League preliminary match where they are scheduled to host Zambia’s Zanaco on February 18 in Dar es Salaam.
