Rainfall at last for some regions

Residents of Western and South Western Zone regions can breath a sigh of relief following predictions that the rainy season, which started last week in the areas will go into full spell.

Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) said yesterday the regions would receive average rainfall in the whole season.

TMA Director General, Dr Mohamed Mhita told The Guardian in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the seasonal rainfall had started in full blast in Iringa, Mbeya, Rukwa, Mtwara, Ruvuma and Lindi regions, though a month late.

”Southern Highlands regions were supposed to receive rains from last December,” he said adding the rains have come a month later.

Dr Mhita said Southern Highlands and western parts of Ruvuma including Rukwa were experiencing slightly above average rainfall.

He advised farmers to step up planting. The Central Zone - Dodoma, Singida and part of Northern Iringa regions are still dry, he said adding, farmers in the areas should consult agricultural experts before planting.

In the Coast Region and some parts of Dar es Salaam, Dr Mhita said the areas experiencing temporary rainfall, which was going to last for a few days only.
