Kivukoni Ward councillor Adam Kimbisa was elected mayor of Dar es Salaam city during elections that were held at Karimjee Hall yesterday.

Three councillors took part in the fiercely competitive elections that were also attended by all members of parliament from Dar es Salaam constituencies.

A total of 106 ballots were cast in the polls that the opposition did not take part, having failed to secure even a single in last month’s general election.

Kimbisa polled 100 out of 106 votes. A son of former Prime Minister Joseph Sinde Warioba, Kippi Warioba, who represents Upanga ward, got four votes, while councillor Ahmed Mwilima had two votes.

Kimbisa replaces Kleist Sykes who failed to retain his seat during CCM primary polls.

He promised to work hard and to co-operate with his counterparts in Temeke, Ilala and Kinondoni and all councillors in the city. Kinondoni mayor, Salum Londa, supervised the elections.
