President Jakaya Kikwete has ordered the Ministry of Education to reinstate the subjects it had scraped from the secondary school curriculum.
The president also directed the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training to rescind its decision and reinstate subjects in the educational curriculum immediately pending consensus with players in the sector.
President Kikwete issued the directive when he toured the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training yesterday.
He said the ministry should reinstate the subjects the subjects it scraped for the benefit of the society.
He said:People are complaining about your decision to scrape the subjects at secondary level.
You must involve the stakeholders when you make such decisions, otherwise you will be misunderstood.
You must convince them that commerce and bookkeeping, agriculture, geography, chemistry and physics and Sports in schools are not important.
The society will not understand; you have the duty now to serve the society. As a ministry, your must have a sound basis and focus, he said.
Kikwete said:The ministry of Education and Vocational Training is not your property, it is for the society. The society will never understand your decision to scrape the subjects.
The minister Margaret Sitta and her deputies Mwantumu Mahiza and Ludovic Mwanzila led the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training Ministry staff.
