President Jakaya Kikwete said yesterday that he would sack officers if discovered that they allocated land to more than one person.
Speaking when he visited the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, President Kikwete said that names of the officers who double allocated parcels of land would be forwarded to the Prevention of Corruption Bureau for legal action.
The president said that allocating a plot to more than one person is fraud and the government would not tolerate such dishonest officers who steal from innocent people.
The President gave the warning yesterday when he toured the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlement to talk to staff.
I wont be polite to such officers who have been embarrassing the government. They have been violating the law, he said.
You know the land laws better, but you are on the forefront in violating the same law, he said.
The President said there were no other words to explain the violation of laws other than the selfishness of the officers.
One plot is given to six or seven people. One brings sand, another bricks, the other starts building on the same plot. This is bad and must stop forthwith, he said.
Kikwete said those people whose plots have been double allocated should collect their title deeds for inspection and lands officers who issued them would be sacked.
Those whose signatures would be involved in the scandals would be sacked even if they are 1,000 it is better to start afresh as there are many educated people waiting for employment out there, said the president.
the president ordered that upcountry people with similar problems should take their title deeds to Regional Commissioners so that the officers are punished.
He said the officers who would be caught to be involved in double allocation would be sacked and their names would be presented to the PCB so that they may be charged with corruption.
The President said the issue of double allocation cannot be tolerated and that officers in the ministry should name all those who are involved in such incidents.
He told the Lands Minister John Pombe Magufuli to form special committee to deal with the issue and that it should be in place within six months.
I have brought you here with a purpose. I want you to do the job you have done in the Ministry of Works. The rest we will know as we go ahead, he said.
