IPP Executive Chairman Reginald Mengi will sponsor about 100 children for open heart surgery to be performed in India at the end of March this year.
This was said in Dar es Salaam yesterday by Convenor of Heart Surgery Project and Medical Camps Dr Rajni Kanabar when bidding farewell to eight patients who left for open heart surgery, under the Millennium Heart Surgery Project of Lions Club of Dar es Salaam (Host) in collaboration with Regency Medicare Centre.
Today eight patients will leave for Heart Surgery in India. Our next batch will fly at the end of March under the sponsorship of IPP Executive Chairman Reginald Mengi, who has joined our missionary boat of service.
His sponsorship is in memory of his beloved son Rodney, through the Rodney Mutie Mengi Foundation, said Dr. Kanabar.
He said all but three of the 14 patients in the last group that flew to India, would be arriving in Dar es Salaam by the end of next week after successful heart surgery.
He said the three patients who include a Kenyan were still awaiting surgery because of the complicated nature of their defects.
We have already surpassed our target figure of 100 surgeries, under the Millennium Heart Surgery Project. We are grateful to all who have contributed to our mission, he said.
He urged other people to contribute whatever little amount to the life-giving humanitarian programme.
Out of a population of 34, million Tanzanians if only 10 per cent would miss a meal for one day and donate one dollar, we would have 3.4m/- dollars in the bank account of Lions Club of Dar es Salaam, Host.
This amount would be enough to create an infrastructure of Excellence of Heart Institute Centre in Tanzania, he said.
