The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has installed three temporary weighbridges in the Coast, Dar es Salaam and Morogoro regions to address problems of delays and congestion of vehicles at the Kibaha Weigh-bridge.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam Tuesday, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry, John Kijazi, said that one of the newly established temporary weighbridges is at Makondeko in Kinondoni District.

Other temporary weighbridges have been established at Chalinze in Coast Region and Mikese in Morogoro, according to Kijazi.

He added that Tanroads have established such temporary weighbridges to speed up weigh-in exercise for upcountry passenger buses from northern, southern and western parts of the country.

’Verification for the conformity of overloading control regulations of the vehicles orginating from Chalinze and Mikese is made at Kibaha weigh-bridge through pre-prepared filled forms,’ Kijazi stated.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development has been considering long-term solutions and investments to be put in place as soon as funding is secured.

’Anyone with technical ideas may make recommendations to the ministry for consideration, especially if those suggestions might contribute to the elimination of corruption and tax evasion at weigh-bridges,’ Kijazi said.

There have been repeated complaints from the public over the delays and congestion of vehicles at Kibaha Weigh-bridge, as well as corruption by officials manning them.
