A Kisarawe District court has condemned a farmer to life imprisonment for raping a minor.

The court said, it had received incontrovertible proof against the convict, Mujibu Haruna, 21, who raped a four-year old girl (name withheld) in his house last year.

The Magistrate, Fundi Kaniki, convicted the farmer on the basis of the evidence adduced by the prosecution and six witnesses.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Marison Mwakyoma, said that on April 17 last year, the accused defiled the girl and inflicted actual bodily harm. The incident occurred at Kisanga village. The victim was rushed to Kisarawe District Hospital.

A sister of the girl, Mkwimba Mussa (15), told the court that on the fateful day, the accused, an uncle, called the girl to his house and after a short while, the little girl emerged from the house walking in an abnormal manner.

On enquiry, the victim told the elder sister that their uncle had raped her.

They informed their mother of the incident when she returned from a trip.

When the mother demanded to know if the uncle has committed the offence, the accused answered in the affirmative.

In her testimony, the mother said the accused admitted to having had carnal knowledge of the minor.

The accused then promised to co-operate with family members to help the girl get treatment.

In mitigation, the accused asked the court to be lenient to him on the grounds that he had been misled by the devil.

In his ruling, the magistrate said the accused deserved punitive punishment for his beastly act.
