Seven newly appointed deputy ministers took oath of office yesterday following their appointment by President Amani Abeid Karume on Monday.
A Zanzibar State House statement named those sworn in yesterday as Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (Information, Culture and Sports), Machano Othman Said (Communications and Transport) and Taffana Kassim Mzee (Water, Construction, Energy and Lands).
Others are Shawana Buheit Hassan (Health and Social Welfare), Khamis Jabir Makame (Education and Vocational Training) and Khatib Suleiman Bakari (Agriculture, Livestock and Environment).
The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by, among others, Chief Minister Shamsi Vuai Nahodha and Attorney General Iddi Pandu Hassan.
However, the statement did not reveal the academic backgrounds of the deputy ministers.
President Karume appointed six deputy ministers after his election victory last year, leaving seven ministers without deputies.
The president has yet to appoint principal secretaries.
