Vodacom Group has pledged to donate 1bn/- to buy food for people affected by hunger.

Group chief executive officer Alan Craig announced the donation at a press conference in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Craig said the donation would be handed to Tanzanian Relief Fund under the Prime Minister’s Office.

He said that, many Tanzanians are now going through hard times as a result of food shortages caused by the prevailing drought.

Craig also disclosed that Vodacom Tanzania would increase its capital investment in the country to create more jobs for the youth.

He said that increased investment would lead to the expansion of the cellular phone firm’s coverage of rural areas and provide affordable communication for its customers.

South Africa High Commissioner Sindiso Mfinyana said that South African companies that have invested in Tanzania would assist locals to create wealth.
