The government has identified the company that owns the sandalwood haul that was seized in Dar es Salaam on Monday.

Speaking to The Guardian in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism Felix Lyimo said that Adept Impex Company Limited has acknowledged possession of the consignment.

’The director of Adept Impex Company Limited Hashim Gao came to the ministry on Monday and said the consignment was legally his.

We asked him to provide documentary proof after which he brought the licences to the ministry for verification,’ he said.

He said that a team of experts from the ministry had been directed to conduct the verification as fast as possible to enable the ministry to take an appropriate action.

He added that the documents showed that the owner of the sandalwood bought the consignment from nine different people in different regions.

He said that the management of Adept Impex Company Limited has been co-operating with the ministry and made the process easy.

On Monday this week, Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Anthony Diallo, his Permanent Secretary Salehe Pamba, two ministry officials and journalists made a surprise visit to Tabata Relini in Dar es Salaam where they discovered the consignment being hidden at a yard.

The consignment was awaiting shipment abroad.
