Government authorities in Tanga have issued a strong warning to regional, district and local government officials who block the implementation of Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) projects.
The Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Paul Chikira, said legal action would be taken against people who would be proved to be stumbling blocks in the effective implementation of TASAF projects.
The measures, according to the RAS, included firing the respective officials.
Chikira made the remarks when launching a technical forum on the implementation of the second-phase of TASAF II project in the region. The meeting took place in Korogwe District last week.
According to Chikira, TASAF funds should be used effectively and in accordance with governments vision that focuses on such sectors as health, education, water, roads and social welfare.
The authorities are obliged to use the money for the targeted development projects only and not for anything else, said Chikira.
The RAS criticized TASAF officials who pretend to be heads of the projects and ignore wananchi, who are the main targeted group in the TASAF initiatives.
Said he: These officials are bureaucratic; they are stumbling blocks towards the effective implementation of TASAF projects. They misuse funds; they dont want to respond to peoples concerns on the progress of the project.
The official called on the TASAF national leaders to closely follow the implementation of the projects at the grassroots levels to ensure realization of the set goals.
