Following the recent spate of armed robbery, the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) has advised accountants against transporting cash to and from the bank for their own security.

Addressing reporters during a one day seminar for auditors and accountars last week, NBAA Registror Ludovick Utouh said accountants were risking their lives by transferring cash to the bank without adequate security.

Utouh said it was high time the banks came to collect the cash from firms banking with them.

’Ministries, companies and organisations should let the banks collect cash as they have adequate security and modern equipment, ’ he said.

He warned that some untrustworthy employees were collaborating with robbers and were revealing the entire process of collecting and sending money to the bank.

’There must be some connection between the staff and the robbers. How come they know there is money to be transported to the bank ?’ He queried.

He said that mobile phones also facilitate to the large extent the robbers’ to get relevant information on how money is transported.

Utouh said that accountants should have life insurance as robbery activities which are a threat to their lives were on the rise.

The seminar aimed to intensify the foundations of good governance for auditors and accountants to ensure that the budgets that are set by the ministries, organisations and companies are utilised as planned.

Three papers were presented, including auditing and avoiding problems arising at workplace and insurance and auditing.

200 participants from the government and private organisations attended the seminar.
