Driver charged after Moro bus crash

The driver of the bus that overturned in Morogoro last week, killing 14 people, has appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving and negligence.
In the dock before the Morogoro Resident Magistrates Court was Dar es Salaam resident Dunstan Milanzi, 36, who denied all charges brought against him. Milanzi faced 14 charges of causing death and 30 counts of causing injury by dangerous driving.
The prosecutor, Selemani Madende, told presiding magistrate Jaffari Mzonge that the accused failed to exercise care and drove the Scania bus with the registration number T 209 ACQ dangerously, leading to an accident which killed 14 people and injured 30 others, in Morogoros Kihonda area on February 23, this year.
You honour, the accused was speeding, and the bus overturned after one of its front tyres burst, leading to tragic loss of life, Madende said, adding that the bus was travelling to Dar es Salaam from Mwanza at the time of the accident.
Milanzi was released on bail and ordered to appear in court again on March 13 when the case will come up for another mention.
