Police in the newly established Dar es Salaam Zone have offered a hefty reward to any person who will deliver information leading to the arrest of seven suspects in connection of the murder of four civilians in Januray this year, in Sinza, Dar es Salaam.
The amount of the monetary reward has not been disclosed.
The suspects, all of whom are police officers, are among 15 suspects who are alleged to have shot dead the four civilians. Eight others have already appeared in court charged with murder.
The announcement was made by Dar es Salaam Zone Police Commander Alfred Tibaigana at a news conference.
The move the police follows the order by President Jakaya Kikwete two weeks ago that the suspects should be dealt with in accordance with the law. The seven suspects have since been at large.
Those being sought by the police are Ahmed Makele, who was an officer at Urafiki Police Station, Staff Sergeant James Masopa, Corporal Rajab Bakar, Constable Sadi, Constable Rashid and Constable Frank Mbutu.
The identity of the seventh suspect has not been established.
Tibaigana said Makele was studying in Egypt, and disappeared at Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere International Airport on Friday after deceiving the police that he would have arrived on Sunday.
Police who want to arrest him on Sunday did not find him and on reporting the matter to authorities it was found out that he had arrived in the country on Friday and later disappeared.
