The government will set up a website for wananchi to channel their opinions, problems and suggestions to the government directly.

It will be different from the current government website www.tanzania.go.tz that is specifically meant to inform the public about what the government is doing.

Closing a discussion on improvement of communication within the government yesterday, President Jakaya Kikwete said the government would set up a platform for wananchi to air their problems and suggestions.

’’I’m very willing to establish such a platform. We shall discuss the issue with the Ministry of Information, Sports and Culture,’’ Kikwete said.

He said the website would be run by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Sports as the ”spokesman” of the government.

He said MAELEZO staff would be assigned to compile wananchi’s views and forward them to respective ministries.

The president also reiterated his call to ministers and other civil servants to serve wananchi diligently.

He called on ministers not to delegate their responsibilities to their juniors, saying he had been entrusted by wananchi to ensure that they deliver.

’’If you leave your subordinates to make all the decisions on your behalf then, count yourselves as failures. Ministerial positions are never shared.

Do not allow your subordinates to prevent you from meeting and talking to wananchi,” the President said.

He called on leaders to work closely with the media and stop shunning journalists.

’’When a journalist comes to you and you tell your secretary to tell him/her that you are not in the office, while in fact you are there, that journalist will go back to the newsroom and concoct a story to force you speak.

The next day you will call a press conference and respond. You are the spokespeople; do not be scared of the Press. Work with the media,’’ he told the ministers attending a seminar for senior public servants at Ngurdoto Hotel in Arusha.
