The Minister for Education and Vocational Training, Margaret Sitta, has called upon students who are joining Form Five this year to avoid behaviours that may lead them to contract HIV/Aids.
Sitta said this on Monday when addressing students and invited guests to mark Commonwealth Day at Shaaban Robert Secondary School in Dar es Salaam.
They should remember that HIV/Aids is within us and is a killer disease, the nation heavily depends on you for its socio-economic development, please you should not let down your country, said Sitta.
In this years Commonwealth Day celebrations theme Health and Vitality: The Commonwealth Challenge, Sitta said that HIV/Aids epidemic was one of the diseases that has reduced the productive force, which is very important in the struggle against poverty.
She added: My ministry has a vision in implementing the response to the HIV/Aids education programme, that all members of the education sub-sector are sufficiently equipped with knowledge, skills and are aspiring to protect themselves and others against HIV/Aids and STIs.
She said the goal is to build capacity to respond to and reduce the spread of HIV and AIDS epidemic and its impact on the education sub-sector.
Commonwealth Day is the day to remember and learn about the Commonwealth an association of countries from all six continents with different cultures and levels of development, but with common history and shared values.
