The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated to Tanzania about 2bn/- to help the country deal with famine crisis due to prolonged drought.

Representative of the UAE government, Mohamed Abdulrahim handed over the donation to the Prime Minister, Edward Lowassa, at a brief function held in Dar es Salaam at the weekend.

Abdulrahman said his government was aware of the great impact of famine affecting Tanzanians.

’I have witnessed the work done by your government in reducing the impact of hunger and power crisis. We are concerned over the problems you are facing wrought by drought,’he told Lowassa.

He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the fourth phase government in mobilising people for development.

The Premier thanked UAE for supporting Tanzania in the fight against hunger and promised the money donated would be used for the intended purpose.
