Bus crash leaves scores injured

A Fresh Coach passenger bus crashed at Lembeni area in Kilimanjaro Region yesterday afternoon, injuring dozens, four of them seriously, a police source said yesterday.
Speaking on telephone from the scene of accident, the Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander, Venance Tossi, said the bus, with registration number T955 ABF was travelling from Dar es Salaam to Arusha.
He said the bus skidded off the road and overturned at around 1pm.
According to the RPC, the bus was speeding before the driver, Safari Lusanya, 38, who also sustained serious injuries, lost control and overturned.
He named those injured seriously as Lusanya himself, a resident of Arusha, Severin Mshana, 38, from Dar es Salaam who lost his legs and a businessman from Moshi, Elihuruma Mushi, 38.
Commander Tossi said the name of another person, who was in a very critical condition, was yet to be known.
The four were rushed to the KCMC Hospital in Moshi for treatment, said the RPC, adding that scores of other passengers, who sustained minor injuries, were also taken to the hospital.
