Three cabinet ministers have attributed their appointment to the government to divine intervention, saying it was Gods will.
The ministers, Prof David Mwakyusa (Health and Social Welfare), Stephen Wassira (Water) and Nazir Karamagi (Industry, Trade and Markets), have therefore requested for prayers by Tanzanians to enable them serve the nation diligently.
The trio was emphatic that President Jakaya Kikwete appointed them to his team of ministers as Gods wish and not on their prominence or popularity.
They, together with other government officials, parliamentarians and civic leaders were attending a church service in honour of their appointment to the government at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Magomeni-Mwembechai on Sunday.
Both Wassira and Mwakyusa are SDA faithful.
On behalf of the trio, Prof Mwakyusa said during last years general election they vied for parliamentary seats.
However, they were picked to serve the entire nation too.
We are all Members of Parliament, representing the people in the constituencies. We did not contest to become ministers… it is God who chose us so that we work for the nation, he said.
Prof Mwakyusa urged the congregation to pray for the entire cabinet.
He said the peoples prayers for both ministers and other government officials would be significant in the attainment of sustainable development.
With your prayers, we will be accountable. It is God who chose us and we have to work hard, he said.
They were emphatic that it was the desire of the fourth phase government to alleviate the health, water and business woes afflicting the entire society.
In an interview after the church service, Wassira told The Guardian that water scarcity in Dar es Salaam was an acute problem, promising that the government was working for a lasting solution.
He blamed the current water rationing in most parts of the city to a faulty transformer at the Ruvu pumping station.
He assured the population that it would receive water soon after the replacement of the transformer.
