Ward official in court for forgery

Tumbi Ward Executive Officer in Tabora Municipality, Abdallah Mgemwa appeared in the Tabora Resident Magistrate’s Court charged with forging arms registration documents for one Athumani Wache.

Prosecuting, Senior Inspector of Police Wilbert Kaiza alleged before Resident Magistrate Cresencia Kisongo that the accused committed the offence on April 9 this year.

Kaiza told the court that the accused forged registration documents for a locally made firearm known as gobore to Wache as well as forging signatures of people purported to be members of ward committee.

He said the committee members when asked if they recognised the signatures on the registartion documents, they answered in the negative — they did not sign the papers.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty and was taken back to remand prison., and the case was adjourned.

Meanwhile, Shigela Ramadhani was sentenced to one year in prison after he was found guilty of possesing a firearm illgelly.

The accused pleaded guilty but asked the court to have mercy on him as he said he had inherited the weapon from his grandfather.
