A resident of Dar es Salaam, Jimmy Jonnes Samwel, has been charged with two counts of stealing and conspiracy to steal almost 300m/- from Stanbic.

Appearing before Kisutu Principal Resident Magistrate Francis Mutungi yesterday in Dar es Salaam, the accused pleaded not guilty.

Assistant Inspector Boniface Edwin told the court that the accused, together with other people who were yet to be apprehended, stole 299,645,480/- through conspiracy between July 2003 and January 2006 in the city.

The accused and his collaborators forged a cheque for the amount.

In the second count, the accused was charged of obtaining 142,861,408.47/- by false pretence.

The prosecution said the accused committed the offence at the same place and period as in the first count.

In both counts the accused uttered forged cheques.

After the accused pleaded not guilty, the prosecution sought more time to complete investigations.
The plea was granted.

The case was adjourned up to April 27, this year when it will be mentioned.
