JK to present Manufacturer of the Year Award today

President Jakaya Kikwete is today expected to present presidents Manufacturer of the Year award, a rewarding mechanism geared to promote investments and boost up competitiveness in the countrys industrial sector.
The Award has been introduced by the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI) to recognise the contribution of the industrial sector to the countrys economy, according to the Confederations Chief Executive, Christine Kilindu at a press-briefing yesterday.
13 best performers have been lined-up for awards in different categories – 3 from agro-processing industries, 3 chemical and plastic industries, 2 from wood and printing, 3 metal and non-metal industries, one service industries.
Out of these category winners, the President will award overall winner or President of the Year, according to CTI official. All participants to the confederations annual competition will receive trophies.
The competition was sponsored jointly by Gapco, National Bank of Commence (NBC) and Celtel-Tanzania, as the main sponsors.
According to an official statement, the sponsors will assist the President in presenting different category prizes as follows: Celtel - large-scale industries, NBC – medium-scale industries and Gapco - small-scale industries.
A professional data collection and judging company has been contracted to screen the participants of the competition.
Celtel-Tanzania Sales Director, Herbert Louis, hailed CTI manufacturer award saying it would help to improve the performance and productivity of the countrys manufacturing sector.
Celtel is ready to continue co-operating with CTI and other partners to stimulate fast growth and development of the industrial sector, Louis said shortly after introducing the trophies to the journalists.
NBC Marketing Manager, William Kallaghe, said: We, at NBC appreciate and commend what CTI is presently doing as far as the promotion of manufacturing sector concerned.
The Award also aims to raise standard business practices and promote corporate governance among CTI members, take stock of technological advancements in the manufacturing sector, promote research activities and enhance competitiveness of the sector, according to Kilindu.
