Seven arrested over 33m/- robbery in Mwanza

Seven people have been arrested in connection with Mondays robbery of about 32.9m/- belonging to Nyanza Bottling Company Limited (NBCL).
According to Mwanza Regional Police Commander, Zelothe Stephen, some of the arrested suspects were NBCL workers.
What I can say today is we have netted seven people in connection with the crime. We are still interrogating them. I cannot mention their names….I cant give you more details, said the RPC in a phone interview.
Rumours in the city had it that the police had recovered some of the money but the RPC refused to comment on the issue.
NBCL Managing Director, Christopher Gachuma, told The Guardian, the robbers entered the factory at around 9am on Monday posing as customers.
They then proceeded to the cash office where they took the cashier, Margareth Minja hostage and forced her to hand over to them all the cash under her care.
Immediately after they left her office, she alerted other people in the factory of the robbery.
The guards tried to stop the gang at the gate unsuccessfully and in the process one guard was shot at.
The police named the injured guard as Felician Peter. He was treated at Sekou Toure regional hospital.
An eyewitness said the robbers after stealing the money took off in a saloon car, which was later found abandoned at Igoma suburbs in the outskirts of Mwanza City.
