The Deputy Minister for Lands and Human Settlement, Rita Mlaki has donated about 1m/- to a women’s group in Tegeta, Dar es Salaam.

The group, will use the money to build a girl’s hostel in Tegeta, Dar es Salaam.

Mlaki gave out the donation during a ceremony organised to congratulate her for her election as a member of parliament.

The group, Tegeta Women Environmental Development (TEWEDE), deals with environmental conservation within their area.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mlaki urged TEWEDE to work hard and come up with new strategies for the conservation of environment.

Mlaki said the group was a good example of how people can foster their own development and in the long run, alleviate poverty.

She called on residents of Tegeta to take care of environment to better their lives.

The chairperson of the group, Evelin Madeje said lack of a police post in Tegeta area was a big problem.

’Many robberies are committed in Tegeta every month, the government should think of constructing a police post at Masait area,’ she said.

TEWEDE has about 20 registered members who engage in tree planting in all the open spaces at Tegeta.
