The Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof David Mwakyusa, has called on the new board of workers council of the Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI) to observe labour laws so as to improve good relations between workers and patients.
Prof Mwakyusa made the call on Friday when he launched the five-member board, which will be chaired by Sir Andy Chande.
He said patients have been complaining about poor services rendered by health workers at MOI.
The complaints touch directly on the ethics of the health workers, he said.
He told the board it had the obligation to see to it there was good communication between workers, patients and the government.
You must make sure every body abides by the laws as per your contract, Prof. Mwakyusa said.
He said people expect to get good services from health workers at public health institutions.
Doing the opposite, is acting against ethics, he said.
Earlier on, the Board Chairman, Sir Andy Chande told the minister his team was going to ensure workers would abide by the labour laws.
