Watchman arrested for shooting five people

A watchman working for Tele Security firm of Dar es Salaam has been arrested for reckless handling of a gun after he shot and injured five people on Friday, the police said yesterday.
The guard, named Hamisi Mngwaso (40) at Extelecoms building, which is located at the junction of Bridge and Kaluta streets in Ilala Municipality shot carelessly and injured about five people at around 10.00 am on Friday, Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Commissioner Alfred Tibaigana told the press yesterday.
The injured victims - Masiba Salum (19), sustained injuries on his back, while Mariam Lingianda (38) was injured on her right hand; and Zainabu Shabani (39) was wounded on the buttocks.
Sofia Mgonja (45) was shot on her right thigh and Sixbeth Antony (38) was injured on her back, the police said.
All the five victims were taken to Muhimbili National Hospital for treatment.
According to Tibaigana, the gun that caused injuries to the five people has registration number R215616.
Meanwhile, at Shoga Street in Tandika a six bed roomed house and all the properties that were in it were reduced to ashes on Friday in a fire accident.
The cause of the fire, Tibaigana said had not been established.

Commissioner Tibaigana said that the cause of fire was yet to be established but started from a room of one tenant Veronica Mosha (45).
He said that the value of the destroyed property is yet to be established.
The fire brigade managed to put off the fire and no one was injured in the incident.
