Nigerian army officers complete geo-strategic study tour

Twenty-eight participants and faculty members of the National War College, Abuja, Nigeria, were on geo-strategic study tour of Tanzania recently, that aimed, among other things, to assist participants assess Tanzanias level of preparedness towards the formation of the East African Brigade (East Brig) which is a requirement of the African Union (AU) for the establishment of an African Standby Force.
The participants mostly made up of Brigadier Generals, Colonels and their equivalents drawn from all arms of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigerian Police Force, Strategic Federal Ministries, Agencies as well as military officers from other African countries, including Tanzania, made up the composition of this years participants.
The tour of Tanzania which was within the Regional Studies Module of the College Programme was designed to familiarise participants with the country, its history, geography, geo-political and economic realities, its foreign and defence policies and above all, its state of relations with Nigeria.
Also during the tour, participants paid courtesy calls and visits on the Nigeria High Commission, the Chief of Staff of the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces (TPDF), Tanzania Automobile Technology Centre, the Ministry of Planning, Economy and Empowerment.
They toured historical sites in Zanzibar and paid courtesy call on the 101 Bde Commander.
They visited the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the East African Community Headquarters and the Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI) in Arusha.
Speaking during a dinner hosted on their behalf by the Nigeria High Commissioner at his residence along Toure Drive in Dar es Salaam, the leader of the delegation, Brig. Gen A. B. Dambazau hailed the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces for their warmth welcome and hospitality.
He informed that he was impressed by the structure and level of professionalism exhibited by the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces (TPDF).
The Nigeria High Commissioner, Abdulmumini Abubakar, expressed gratitude to the government and people of Tanzania and in particular, the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces (TPDF) for their generosity, hospitable disposition and kind gesture extended to the participants in Tanzania.
