A Row is brewing between Kwembe Local government and the Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Rita Mlaki over which district Kwembe village falls.
The Kwembe Local Government chairperson, Mary Cholobi, discounted and dismissed over the weekend as inaccurate the ministers assertion that the village falls under the jurisdiction of Kisarawe District, in Coast Region.
We, the leaders of Kwembe village have since invited the Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Rita Mlaki, to meet us and deliberate on the issue, but she has not turned up for the discussion, Cholobi said.
Cholobi was emphatic that there was a covert move to try and manipulate things so that Kwembe Village is transferred to Kisarawe District.
The move, she claimed, has been mooted so that once the transfer is finalised, the Kisarawe District authority would then allocate the village to the Muhimbili University College of Health Science (MUCHS).
We leaders of Kwembe Village do not recognise the illegal transfer of the whole village to Kisarawe from Kinondoni District, in Dar es Salaam Region, she stated.
Early this year, the deputy minister announced that Kwembe Village belonged to the Kisarawe District, in Coast Region.
Mlaki was reported to have said that according to the map of the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Kwembe Village appears to be within the jurisdiction of Kisarawe District.
A spokesperson of the residents of Kwembe Village whose houses and farms were earmarked for the expansion of Muhimbili University College of Health Science (MUCHS), Martin Luagasi, told The Guardian over the weekend that it was principally agreed that each affected resident would be paid fair compensation.
We reached a common consensus among us at the end of last year and decided that we will never pave way for the expansion of MUCHS, unless we are fully and fairly compensated, Luagasi stated.
