The World Bank has disbursed at least 10bn/- for the implementation of a four-year African Regional Capacity Building Network for HIV/Aids Prevention, Treatment and Care Project (ARCAN) in three countries, including Tanzania.

The ARCAN Co-ordinator, Valentine Gitoho, told The Guardian in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday the funds would be spent for the implementation of ARCAN Project within the coming four years.

Gitoho said the whole budget for the implementation of the project came from the World Bank in terms of a grant.

Other countries which would be covered by the ARCAN Project are Ethiopia and Kenya, according to Gitoho.

On Monday, the Executive Chairman of Tanzania Commission for AIDS, Major General (rtd) Herman Lupogo, launched a four-year African Regional Capacity Building Network (ARCAN) for HIV/Aids Project in Dar es Salaam.

Launching the project, Lupogo said the project would solely focus on training of medical practitioners in three African countries namely Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania.

Medical practitioners who would undergo such courses include physicians, nurses, laboratory technicians, counsellors and supervisors together with HIV/Aids program managers, Lupogo was reported as saying.
