The State Minister in the President’s Office (Political Affairs and Civil Societies Relations) Kingunge Ngombale Mwiru has said the political turmoil in Zanzibar is historical.

Kingunge told the Parliament yesterday the never-ending conflict between Unguja and Pemba within the isles was not geographical rather historical.

He was reacting to MPs arguments during their contributions to the budget estimates for the President’s office read by the Minister of State in the office of President (Public Service Hawa Ghasia) for the year 2006/2007.

He said the two sides had different mindset and blames each other for the mess making it difficult to pin which side is the real cause of the problem.

”There are things that fuel the conflict….and leaders fuels it,” he said.

Leaders from CUF and CCM magnify this problem while local people are still co-operating in different matters including inter- marriages and cooperating burial ceremonies.

”It is a must that leaders should admit that there is a crack. Failure to admit the disease exists just worsens the matter. The existing crack affects the economy of the country. Both CUF and CCM don’t benefit from that,” he said.
