Over one hundred local and foreign food processors will hold a food fair mid this month at National Museum grounds in Dar es Salaam, it has been announced.
The fete set for September 11 – 15, 2006 is organised by Tanzania Food Processors Association-TAFOPA.
According to TAFOPA Chairperson Suz Laiser, the trade fair will accommodate small and medium entrepreneurs involved in food processing business.
Food processors from Kenya are also expected to participate in the trade fair, she said.
She said the quality of products from the members was competitive.
Our products are of high quality, value, nice and attractive. We adhere to quality control, she said.
She called on Tanzanians to turn up in big numbers at the exhibition.
Small industries adhere to quality control. Our people must start trusting locally produced goods, she said.
Small income generating groups such as embroiders, local basket-makers and batik designers have also been invited to participate, she said.
Several packaging industries involved in the food processing sector have also been invited to take part in the fair.
Standard Chartered Banks Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) unit will also participate in the fair to market its services to SMEs operators at the fair.
Smallholder food processors produce mainly tomato sauces, margarines, jams, fruit juices among others, she said.
We process quality products not by accident… for smallholder food processors quality is our integrity, said Laiser.
Most smallholder food processors in the country are trained by SIDO regularly and also attend workshops on quality control organised by Tanzania Foods and Drugs Authority-(TFDA ) and Tanzania Bureau of Standards(TBS), she said.
The fair will be the third one to be organised by TAFOPA. This time it is sponsored by the IPP, TWIGA BANCOP, TIC, TCRA, SIDO and UNIDO.
The first two fairs were held in Arusha Region in 2001 and 2003.
At the same time she announced that on September 12, TAFOPA will hold its Annual General Meeting at the same venue.
The meeting will be followed by a one day sensitisation seminar on HIV/Aids issues.
