Education and Vocational Training Ministry (MoEVT) has reinstated three female students, who were dismissed from school after conceiving.

The students are from Kikungwe Primary School in Kati District, Unguja.

The head teacher, Amran Kassim, said the students were reinstated after counselling.

MoEVT established a new policy recently that gives opportunity to students who conceive to continue learning, making Ordinary Level (Form Four) education compulsory.

However, the policy stipulates that students to be reinstated are those conceiving against their will.

”We have allowed three students to go back to school, two have agreed, but one has refused, Kassim said.

Kassim urged parents to be close to their children so as to shun behaviour that might destroy their future.

Recently, Education and Vocational Training Minister, Haroun Ali Suleiman said that early marriage was on the increase.

He said a total of 38 students got married last year, and added that the number is considered to be higher than 2004 which had 26 reported cases of early marriage.
