Duo pleads guilty over unlawful exit from country

Two Dar es Salaam residents, who were repatriated to the country from South Africa after unlawful exit from the country, pleaded guilty and were fined 10,000/- each.
They were reportedly found not to have filled and signed the prescribed forms at the time of departure from Tanzania.
A Kisutu Resident Magistrates court charge sheet shows that authorities in South Africa ordered the duo back on Thursday this week and were yesterday taken to Kisutu Resident magistrates Court.
The two men were identified as Mwarami Abubakar (29) and Soud Ally Mwangira (24).
The accused were charged with unlawfully departure outside the United Republic of Tanzania.
Reading the charges before Resident Magistrate Farida Mohamed, the Immigration Departments Public Prosecutor, Bernadeta Tyetyetye claimed that the accused departed to South Africa on unknown date and place.
Tyetyetye told the court that the accused left the country without presenting themselves to immigration officials at the point of departure.
She said legally when one wants to go outside the country she or he has to sign and fill the prescribed forms of departure known as TIF 11.
In addition, Tyetyetye said the accused remained outside the country until Wednesday when the authorities in South Africa repatriated them back by air via Mwalimu J K Nyerere International Airport.
The accused pleaded guilty and told the court that they had to leave the country because life had became so hard for them here.
They added they have relatives to take care of and they believed if they go outside the country they might make it and have a better life.
The Magistrate, after listening to their mitigation said that because they have pleaded guilty they have to pay a fine of 10,000/- each. They paid the fine.
