National Book Week takes off

Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) Mizengo Pinda today opens the 15th National Book Week Festival in Dar es Salaam.

According to Chairman of the National Book Week Committee Yusuf Mjungu,, the theme of the show this year is ’Read to Eradicate Poverty.’

Mjungu said that the industry also takes time to examine the challenges facing in the years ahead, while assessing the achievements.

He mentioned some the stakeholders in the industry as Publishers Association (PATA), writers Association (UWAVITA), Printers Association (TAPP), Book sellers Association (BSAT), Library Association (TLA) and Cultural Activities Association (CCHAUTA).

He said most of the books in the market, cater for the school or college going population.

He regretted that after getting their certificates, the graduates mostly hang up their books and join either the working or jobseekers’ population. population.

He said the need to eradicate poverty theme means to compete with the conditions superimposed by the changing environment.
