’’The Immigration Department is responsible for controlling the movement of people in and out of the country. The department is supposed to track down all illegal immigrants as well and make them face the full wrath of law,’’ Lali said.

The DC lambasted citizens who collude with illegal immigrants saying it was totally unacceptable. Lali called on Immigration Department officials to be more efficient.

He praised the deparment for a job well done in the recent months, where illegal immigrants and their hosts have been apprehended.

There are illegal immigrants working in farms, industries, hotels, garages and english medium schools, he said.

’’We even have some immigrants employed as house helps,’’ he said.
Earlier, Arusha regional immigration officer said, the aim of the seminar was to inform all stakeholders about the day to day activities of the Immigration Department.

’’The overall objective of the training is to stamp down the problem of illegal immigrants,’’ he said.
He said illegal immigrants were a security threat to peace and stability of the country.

’’That is why about 70 illegal immigrants believed to be Ethiopians were arrested recently,’’ he said.

He called for the Ward Executive Officers to registers all residents of their wards.
’’By so doing we hope it will be easier to trace and arrest illegal immigrants.

The registration exercise in every ward can boost the distribution of citizenship identity cards,’’ he said.
