De-registered engineer cries foul

The proprietor of a firm whose registration was last week revoked by Engineers Registration Board (ERB) has come out fighting, saying the decision amounted to professional assassination.

He now wants the decision rescinded on the grounds that he had built many structures in the city, which was proof that the disciplinary action was too harsh.

Speaking to The Guardian, the firm’s managing director, Joseph Linza, identified some of the buildings he had built in Dar es Salaam as Richmond Tower, Riki Hotel, Royal Orchard Inn Towers and Peakcock Hotel.

Linza said the revocation of his registration amounted to ’’professional assassination’’ because the board was aware of his competence.

He said that the decision, which was communicated to him through the media, was a major setback as his company had been blacklisted by potential clients.

He vowed to remain steadfast in the search for justice and appealed to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development to review the annulment.

He called upon Minister for Infrastructure Development Basil Mramba to constitute an appeals board, to adjudicate in matters related to allegations of professional misconduct in the industry.

Commenting on allegations levelled against his company, he said the role of his company was supervisory, which is why it had increased the number of engineers from four to seven, in compliance with the regulations issued by the engineers’ board.

He expressed shock that the board took the decision to revoke both himself and his company, despite having met minimum requirements as set by the regulatory body.

He declined to comment on some of the allegations against him, saying the company has professional competence to provide consultancy services.

He said the board was right in striving to uphold high professional standards and creating regulations to which all registered engineers and companies subscribe.

Linza pledged to cooperate with the board to ensure that standards and other matters related to engineering are maintained.
