Malilita villagers in Wela ward of Nzega district have passed a vote of no-confidence in their village chairman.

They claimed he was an impediment to development. The move was made during a public rally held on Friday. 99 per cent of the 250 villagers who attended the meeting had no confidence in the Chairman, Somalia Ditule.

Wela Ward Councillor Laurent Ng’wanakadege, said the villagers had agreed to build a teacher’s and clinical officer’s living quarters, and contribute towards the construction of a day secondary school.

According to Wela Ward Executive Officer Said Kahamba, all four villages in the ward had started contributing except Malilita village. He disclosed that the building of teacher’s houses had not yet started.

In his defence, moments before his ouster, Ditule said that development activities were hampered because all meetings scheduled to discuss development were frustrated by Malilita Village Executive Officer, Butonde Nyerehe.

His defence was trashed by the Acting VEO, who was unanimously supported by villagers during the stormy meeting.

Other leaders rejected are Juma Magele and Sitta Ditule, Chairpersons of Mwakenge A and Isandukilo sub-villages respectively.

The meeting, instead, elected to power Malando Yagunga as Malilita village chairman, while Ngusa Nisese became Chairman for Mwakenge A and Moses Charles became the new Chairman for Isandukilo.
