The Africa Centre for Peace and Development (ACPD), in collaboration with Africa Union Commission (AU), has organised a regional civil society consultative workshop to be held in Dar es Salaam at the weekend.

According to ACPD Chairman Jonathan Lwehabura, the purpose of the workshop is to explore ways of evolving a practical, effective and sustainable relationship between the AU and Civil Society Organisations, working in the field of peace and security.

He said that key component of the wider objective was to develop a frame work to operationalize article 20 of the protocol relating to the activities of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the AU peace and Security Council.

Lwehabura said that in co-operation with the peace and security department, and in particular, the Conflict Management Centre agreed on a framework of regional consultations with Africa.

CSOs are to develop rational, effective skills and capacity with particular emphasis on how they can conduct analytical research and improve dissemination capacity for enhancing AUs work in the area of conflict prevention, management and resolution.
