By Privatus Lipili, Dodoma

The law on promotion of Dodoma as the country’s administrative capital needs to be rectified Prime Minister Edward Lowassa said yesterday here.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Disaster and HIV/Aids, Luka Siyame, addressing the House on behalf of the premier, said Dodoma Special Investment Area Act 1989, which is supposed to attract investors and better infrastructure had many shortcomings.

Dodoma Urban MP, Ephraim Madeje had wanted to know if the government was aware the Act had shortcomings.

According Siyame, despite the provisions of the Act, there were impediments to its application.

Articles number 13 and 15 on the relief of 50 per cent on electricity and water bills were outdated, he said.

The article No.16 of the same law clearly shows that relief of tax had diverse implications.

He said companies entitled to get relief on income tax no longer existed in the city, he said.

”The law does not give clear definitions of the investor or the special investments it prescribes,” he said.
