Dr Shein cautions on malnutrition

Vice President Dr Ali Mohamed Shein has cautioned on the possibility for a dramatic increase in the number of people suffering from malnutrition by the year 2015.
He said unless appropriate measures were taken for countries to have reached the level of food sufficiency.
Addressing the 32nd session of the Global Food Forum in Rome, Italy— Dr Shein said that the situation in many countries depend on food exports.
The session would review and debate the report about the developments reached in the implementation of the agreement of Global Food Management Forum held in Rome 1996 which emphasized on the reduction of malnutrition in the world by 2015.
He said that the current assessment was issued by Food Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and shows that the productivity of food in the world in 2006 would reduce by 8 million metric tonnes compared to 2005.
Almost 40 countries worldwide need emergency food assistance and among them, 26 are African countries, he said.
In Tanzania, he said the government was taking measures to avert foods shortage.
