Two Tanzanian doctors were amongst the dead in a tragic plane accident that occurred in Abuja, Nigeria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has confirmed.

In an official statement, the ministry named the doctors as Nakijwa Kanyika from Morogoro Hospital and Moshi Luhiso from Makandana Hospital.

”The doctors were invited to Nigeria for official medical assignment organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO),” said the statement.

The bodies of the deceased were identified by fellow doctors who accompanied them to Nigeria but did not get aboard the ill-fated plane because they were assigned to visit a different state hence took a different flight.

The government is consulting with the WHO to arrange for the return of the corpses of the deceased.

”If everything goes as planned, we are expecting that the bodies will arrive tomorrow (today),” noted the statement.

The government has expressed sympathy and condolences to the relatives of the doctors who perished in the accident that also killed over 100 people.
