No respite from Cholera in Dar

By Lydia Shekighenda

Dar es Salaam City authorities’ promise of keeping cholera at bay has been punched holes by the relentless communicable disease, which this week alone has claimed one life and left 56 people hospitalized.

The City’s Public Relations officer Gaston Makwembe said yesterday the deceased hails from Ilala municipality.

”Ilala leads the way in having majority of cholera infections in Dar es Salaam compared to other municipalities,” he said.

It has 29 cases reported within the week, followed by Kinondoni (16) and Temeke (11), he said.

Though the cleanliness drive in the city was proceeding well, expected effects were still to be felt, he said.
