By Pascal Shao, Dodoma

The Minister for Education and Vocational Training, Margaret Sitta has urged residents of Lindi Region to make use of Mtwara Vocational Education Training Authority (VETA) centre while waiting for a centre to be put up in their area.

Sitta made the call yesterday in Parliament when responding to a supplementary question by Fatma Mikidadi (Special Seats, CCM).

Earlier, Deputy Minister in the same ministry, Ludovick Mwananzila had said Lindi would get a VETA centre soon.

He assured MAC Architects Consultants of Korea were working on the preliminaries on putting up the centre.

According to Sitta, Mtwara VETA has adequate supply of modern learning tools and facilities from Japan which are underutilized.

Sitta said the centre charges only 90,000/- for most of the courses offered.

”Lindi and Mtwara regions are very close,” she said.
She added that by 2010, the government will make sure that every district has VETA centre.

Mwananzila told the House over 1.2bn/- subsidy through Secondary Education Development Programme (SEDP) had been channeled to Lindi.

The amount will cover construction of 92 classrooms in 59 schools, a library, two laboratories and a girls’ hostel, he said.
