Yanga polls: Prepare election platform adequately

Young African Sports Club (Yanga) general elections are scheduled to be held next February, where the majority of the current office bearers will be defending their positions.
In a democratic society, this is okay but we would like to urge the voting members of the association to scrutinise their performance carefully in the past at the helm of the club against what was initially expected of them.
At the same time, newcomer candidates as well, must be examined thoroughly to see if they have a vision of transforming sporting dreams to reality.
What we are simply advocating for is that voters should elect capable leaders only - those with the ability to contribute to the forward development of sports in the country.
Let us make it clear; we have got nothing against the incumbent or the past leaderships – all performed various development programmes.
Let the voters judge their achievements and failures soberly and then make informed decision without fear or favour whether to vote them out of the office or not.
We are aware of different camps which have been campaigning for the clubs leadership.
This does not auger well for the development of sports as some individuals who are not capable might find their way that way as office bearers.
It will be better for voters not to go for groups but individuals.
Otherwise, some capable candidates not in the well-oiled camps will be locked out.
There are other candidates who have failed to develop other sports associations in the past which they were heading.
Such individuals are not likely to perform any better, and might end up becoming a big liability to Yanga.
Voters should not be taken in by the big names seeking positions at Yanga.
All candidates should be judged by how capable they are.
Yes, the final say belongs to the voters and we hope they will give us leaders at Yanga, who the nation can be proud of.
We do not expect Yanga leaders to go to court to stop the elections as their archrivals Simba Sports Club did. Simba finally held elections early this month but after spending too much time in court.
Yanga should clean their house properly within the remaining days to avoid members seeking court redress to stop the long awaited elections.
Recently, the Election Commission gave us hopes that sports elections can produce good and capable leaders during Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) general elections.
They ensured TOC constitution was followed to the word and only qualified leaders were voted in.
That should be the same spirit to be followed in all elections of sport organisations for the sake of development of the sector.
Yanga has a large following and hopefully preparations for the elections in February will be adequate.
